Restoring the Vedder River Floodplain

Starting in late summer, continued restoration efforts involving the use of heavy machinery will occur along the south-side of the Vedder River to enhance spawning, rearing and overwintering habitat for salmon. In the fall we welcome your help to plant this riparian area and support our healthy watersheds.

Over the next few years FVWC and partners will complete habitat restoration activities in the Chiliwack River Valley and along the Vedder River floodplain to increase the rearing and spawning potential for salmon and habitats that supports resilence and biodiversity. Restoration efforts will include rewatering existing dry channels, creating new channels, adding diversity into the system and replanting the habitat with a diversity of native species, in consideration of changing climate conditions and suitability. With our partners we will also explore the creation of a trail system connecting to existing City trails with intepretive signs.
