Fall 2022 Planting Events! 
Calling all volunteers to help us dig in.

Every year with the help of volunteers we plant thousands of natural trees and shrubs across the Fraser Valley. We are so excited to continue this effort and encourage you to join us! To learn more about the specific details of each event and/or to register for these events please email rachel@fvwc.ca. More details about the events are described below!

Wetlands Tree and Shrub Planting - (Mission BC) 
Date: October 1st
Start Time: 10:00 am
Details: Learn how wetlands function, learn about archaeology, invasive plant species and species at risk and assist in the planting of native vegetation to support salmon habitat.

Freshwater tidal estuaries shrub planting and water quality monitoring - (Mission BC)

Date: TBD
Start Time: 10:00 am

Details: Learn how tidal estuaries function, learn about archaeology, what the process is in BC to building a wetland, invasive plant species, local bird identification practice, and assist in the planting of native vegetation to support salmon habitat.

UPDATE: We are pausing tree planting based on the unprecedented heat and dry weather we are experiencing. (We need to plant these trees concurrently with the fall rains). We anticipate rescheduling planting events for early November.  Thank you for your understanding. If you want to still volunteer, please contact Rachel@fvwc.ca to be added to the list.

Ford Creek – Increasing biodiversity along local trails - (Chilliwack BC) 
Date: October 22nd  2022
Time: 10:00 am
Details: Learn about watershed challenges such as climate change and drought conditions, how to select species for successful increases in biodiversity and assist in the planting of native vegetation to support biodiversity.

What to bring and consider:

  • Please dress for the weather. We suggest wearing or bringing rain gear, boots, gardening gloves & mask.
  • Please bring a water bottle.
  • These locations do not have access to washrooms.

FVWC will provide:

  • Shovels for planting and a goody bag with some covid appropriate light snacks for volunteers.

Health & Safety Measures

  • To maintain the health and safety of our community, if on the day of the event or during the event you have any COVID-19 symptoms we kindly ask that you notify FVWC staff and either do not come or leave the event.
  • We will be registering all volunteers to communicate details, any safety related cancellations and/or contact tracing.
  • We will have hand sanitizer onsite for volunteer use.

Event Cancellation

  • In the event of extreme weather and/or orders from the Public Health Officials, this event may be cancelled at any time. FVWC will communicate any need to cancel the event with all participants as quickly as possible. Participants are encouraged to register so they can receive event communications.
